Challenge

The Range Systems Division at GDMS asked the UX team to help address inconsistency in both the design and the implementation of user interfaces.

Identifying Causations

In order to create solutions to address the identified problem, it was necessary to identify the primary causations. The following causations were identified:

  1. Design was happening at the same time as development
  2. Implementation of designs did not match designs provided by the designers
  3. Design validation was non-existent
  4. UI designs were inconsistent

Recommendations

Based on the causations identified and contributing factors, I provided recommendations to address each of the factors and the overarching causation. Once the Stakeholders agreed to the recommendations a recurring bi-monthly report was provided showing progress of each recommendation and escalating any blockers.

Results

Since addressing some of the recommendations, the level of UX support has increased within the division by an average of 148% YoY from 2019 to 2023 with a direct increase in user engagements from 0 to 5+ engagements per year.
